Autumn is nearly here! After another summer without air conditioning this can only be good news in my house. I’m thinking of having a kind of mini harvest festival to celebrate the turn of the season – something involving apples and a bonfire.

Recently I found…
- Over on Instagram, Autinelle provides tips for dealing with all kinds of overload – sensory, emotional, social, and information. (This makes me wonder: Why didn’t any of my healthcare providers offer something like this when I got my autism diagnosis? Did they assume all my coping methods were healthy?)
- Sam Dylan Finch dissects the othering of mentally ill people and the presumption behind labels (The Body is Not an Apology).
- Coming to My Senses: oh look, someone else who wasn’t diagnosed with sensory processing disorder until adulthood! Excuse me while I read the entire archive…
- Bonus for editors and journalists: guidelines for referring to the disability community (Conscious Style Guide).
Coming soon:
I want to discuss neurodivergent characters in fantasy and science fiction; the lack of accessibility in academia; trying to dictate stories and articles after decades of typing; whether I should accept ‘permanent resident status’ in my parents’ home; the pleasures of home baking.
Some of this I’ll turn into articles to submit for publication somewhere; others will become blog posts.
Which would you like to see here?
And to finish, a song for September.
